Pixels are decoded from WebP, composited onto the selected background if needed, and passed to the JPEG encoder.
The conversion relies on the current browser's WebP decoder and JPEG encoder. The tool checks the returned MIME type before naming the file so an unsupported encode is not mislabeled.
JPEG cannot store alpha transparency, so transparent pixels must be composited over the selected background before encoding. Quality affects compression artifacts and file size, but converting an already lossy WebP cannot restore detail removed from the source.
JPEG cannot preserve transparency, so transparent pixels are composited over the valid six-digit background color you select.
JPEG is widely supported, but the destination can still impose dimensions, file-size, color, or metadata requirements.
