How to use the Words to Pages Calculator
Estimate document page count from a word count using a customizable words-per-page assumption for your formatting.
Estimate manuscript or assignment pages from a word count, font size, spacing, and typical words-per-page assumption. It is a planning aid when the final layout is not yet available.
The text stays in the browser while the tool analyzes or transforms it. Review the output before using it in a graded, published, legal, or accessibility-sensitive document.
Enter the document word count.
Choose a page-density preset or enter a custom words-per-page assumption.

Worked examples
Estimate double-spaced essay length
Scenario: A draft has 1,250 words and the selected convention is 250 words per double-spaced page.
Result: The estimate is 5 pages.
1,250 ÷ 250 = 5. Actual pagination changes with headings, quotations, margins, and paragraph spacing.
How the result is produced
The calculation divides total words by an assumed page density. Presets represent common formatting conventions, but page layout is ultimately determined by the document renderer.
Estimated pages = words ÷ assumed words per page
Double spacing generally lowers words per page
Headings, tables, citations, and images consume layout space
What the page-density presets mean
The preset buttons use rough densities of 250, 500, and 750 words per page for double-spaced, single-spaced, and dense layouts. They are convenient starting points; the editable density field remains the authoritative assumption for the calculation.
Use 250 for an ordinary double-spaced draft.
Use 500 for an ordinary single-spaced draft.
Verify the result in the required document template.
Limitations and common mistakes
A page estimate is not a substitute for opening the text in the required template.
Fonts, margins, line height, paragraph spacing, and paper size can materially change pagination.
Common questions
How many words fit on one page?
It depends on font, margins, spacing, and paragraph structure. About 500 single-spaced or 250 double-spaced words per page are common rough estimates.
Why does my document have more pages?
Your layout may use larger margins, a less dense font, extra paragraph spacing, headings, citations, or figures that the words-per-page assumption cannot represent.
